In the RV, there is a picture of Olga, somewhat making this her first appearance.
The gadgets that Big Bob tests on the hike are named the "solar power face mister", the "computerized path finder" and the "fridge-o-back". Additionally, Helga wears what look like a portable TV in her left wrist.
Alongside "Haunted Train", Helga never calls Arnold "football head" in this episode.
Arnold eats his breakfast with forks in both hands, suggesting that he may be ambidextrous.
This is the first episode on the series where Helga seriously considers confessing to Arnold.
Production Notes[]
This is the first Hey Arnold! episode to be animated by Wang Film Productions in Taiwan. Compared to Hong Ying Animation (also in Taiwan), the colors are not as vibrant and the outlines are much thinner. A couple other first-season episodes have the animation co-produced by Hong Ying and Wang Film Productions, and then the remainder of the first season episodes after "The Sewer King" are animated by Wang, and then Saerom Animation takes over with the second season.
As Helga entertains the idea of confessing her love to Arnold, she runs into a sign stating, "Ophelia's Overlook, 5 miles." Helga concludes that the location is perfect. Ophelia is a romantic character in Shakespeare's Hamlet.
Helga whistles the first few notes of Cream's song "Sunshine of Your Love" when she finds out that Arnold is camping next to her.
Story Analysis[]
Big Bob is right to tell Arnold that one can't eat just any wild berries. However, Arnold and Gerald point out that some particular berries are safe to eat as Grandpa taught them just the day before.
This episode could be seen as a critique on the over-reliance on technology. At the end of the episode Arnold points out that Grandpa's old-school lessons were the reason the group returned safe and sound to the camp and not all of Big Bob's "high tech stuff". While technology and its use is not bad per se, one should be able to keep going even when it breaks, fails, or is unavailable.
