Though all the girls, including Helga, become friends with Lila in this episode, later episodes show that Helga's still jealous of Lila, mainly because Arnold, who Helga has a crush on, ends up developing a crush on Lila, which ironically was Helga's fault. Nonetheless she’s still friends with her and doesn’t treat Lila any worse than anyone else not even her best friend Phoebe. She even tried to replace Phoebe with Lila when Phoebe was promoted to 6th grade in "Phoebe Skips".
With the exception of Sheena and Nadine, all the girls have something against Lila. Although Nadine and Sheena were either peer pressured as Helga and Rhonda respectively push Phoebe and Nadine around or were jealous of her multi-talented abilities or were jealous of something of her off-screen.
Sheena has an aversion to violence, but for some reason is perfectly fine with helping Helga and the rest of the girls get their revenge on Lila. However, this was likely due to peer pressure and/or jealousy.
This episode is similar to the Recess episode "Here Comes Mr. Perfect". It could have inspired it as both shows have many of the same writers and cast members. They also have religious references, as both episodes are based off of the Bible story "Joseph and the Coat of Many Colors" where Joseph's brothers are jealous of him just like the girls are jealous of Lila and how the kids in Recess were jealous of Jared that they tried doing something awful to Lila and Jared respectively just like how Joseph's brothers sold him. In addition to Lila's joke at the end saying "Don't sell that goat" was a reference to how Joseph's coat was covered in goat's blood.
When their first plans of harming Lila backfired was similar to Looney Tunes gags of how Daffy fails to get the better of Bugs (also out of jealousy), Sylvester failing to catch Tweety, Coyote failing to get the Roadrunner etc. Also, when their pranks backfired were similar to how Tom failed to get Jerry and ended up hurting Spike instead and would get beaten up just like Helga was by Patty. This is a reference to that as Craig Bartlett did draw Elmer Fudd in one of his comics.
