Maria is a fictional character in the Hey Arnold! TV Series. She's a beautiful, popular sixth grader whose best friends with Connie. Despite this, she's a very cruel and manipulative bully who uses people to do her bidding.
She was Arnold's "date" at the school dance in "6th Grade Girls". She has a boyfriend named Tommy, who is also in the sixth grade. She made him jealous by asking Arnold to the dance. At the end of the night, Maria apologizes to Arnold for using him, as she still thinks of him as a sweet guy. As a token of gratitude for being her date to the dance, Maria gives Arnold a big kiss that leaves a red lipstick mark on his cheek.
Maria's address is 394th Street, #22 ("6th Grade Girls").
In the later seasons, she, along with Connie began to develop a mean streak as she used Phoebe, and later Siobhan, to do her friend group's homework and buy lunch for them in Phoebe Skips. She also has no problem causing trouble, as in Back to School where she and Connie date Phil whose 70-69 years their senior, and together, they sneak into a PG-13 movie while harassing the workers and spray painting graffiti on a dumpster.
Physical Appearance[]
Maria is a Latina student with tanned skin curly dark brown hair with a pink bow, gold earrings, purple eyeshadow and red lipstick. At first she wears a light blue spaghetti strap top, lavender miniskirt and purple platform sandals. Later on, she wears a magenta polo shirt, red skirt with a burgundy belt and purple buckle and burgundy sandals.
Trivia[]
- She’s loosely based on renowned Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno.
- Likely to save the cost of creating a new model, she and Connie wear their dresses that they wore to the dance in 6th Grade Girls, in every subsequent appearance. That was rectified in the following seasons, when Maria is seen with different colored clothes
- This is maybe also due to her and Connie's outfits being too inappropriate and was later improved to be more suitable.
- Maria is friends with Ruth McDougal, since she and Connie are seen conversing with her in "What's Opera, Arnold?".
- Tommy often attempts to get Maria to talk to him by saying the phrase "Maria, come over here!". It is later shown that her own father addresses her in the same exact manner when Arnold and Gerald go to her house to pick her up.
- In "6th Grade Girls", Maria speaks with a Mexican accent, while in "Phoebe Skips", she has a slightly different Spanish accent.
- She’s the first girl to kiss Arnold.
