"Magic Show" is an episode of Hey Arnold!.

Synopsis[]

During Arnold's magic show, he makes Helga disappear by putting her in a disappearing box, but then Helga sneaks out of the box. After running into a post sign and then knocking herself out, she dreams that she actually disappeared, but no one cares about her.

Plot[]

While getting the mail, Helga sees a flyer for a magic show Arnold is doing. She decides to go see how bad it will to her mother’s disappointment because it’s Bob’s birthday. At the magic show, Helga gets angry that Phoebe didn’t save her a seat and berates her. Arnold’s magic show soon begins and he starts with doing cheap tricks that don’t impress the audience. Losing the audience, Arnold skips to the final trick of making an audience member disappear and the audience chants for Helga to disappear. Helga begrudgingly goes up and gets in the box. Inside the box, a curtain drops over Helga giving the impression she disappeared. Helga overhears Gerald joking if only they could make Helga disappear for real and Helga decides to leave through the back of the box and leaves the stage. When Arnold tries to make Helga reappear, she’s still gone to his confusion. Helga is amused jokingly thinking that Arnold will be arrested for making her disappear as search parties comb the earth for her. While not looking where she was going, Helga runs head on into a pole with a No Running sign.

Helga wakes up to see the sign change to No Helga which confuses her. She goes to the street where everyone is crowded around and realizes nobody can see, hear, or feel her. The parade begins and it’s a celebration that Helga is gone.

Helga can’t believe that there’s nobody that misses her and thinks that surely there’s someone who misses her and decides to see her parents. But when she gets home, she discovered that her parents reignited their love and passion for each other once Helga disappeared along with their creativity and Bob gave up selling beepers to play the harp for Miriam. Helga tries to see if Phoebe misses her and finds out that Phoebe is having a great time with her new friend Gloria who is an idealized version of Helga and Phoebe can’t even remember Helga’s name.

Helga runs into Gerald and Sid who made Helga the name of the enemy in a game they made up. While walking down the street depressed that nobody missed her, Helga sees a TV interview with Arnold through a display window. Arnold became a celebrity for making Helga disappear, states that he doesn’t miss Helga, especially for all the times she called him a football head, and announces that he’s engaged to Ruth. Helga is horrified and shouts in despair and suddenly wakes up.

Helga realizes that everything was a dream and decides that the reason the people in her life didn't care she was gone was because she was too mean to them. She rushes to a store to get gifts and rushes home to give one of them to Bob for his birthday and kisses him on the cheek. Helga then rushes back to the stage as Arnold tries bringing back Helga for the 48th time and she jumps out of the box as the crowd applauds. Helga gives flowers to Phoebe thanking her for being her friend. Helga tries to apologize to everyone for her behavior, but Sid interrupts for an intermission saying that free Yahoo sodas are available much to Helga’s annoyance. Helga goes up to Arnold and apologizes for mocking his head and ruining the trick to his frustration. Helga wants to tell Arnold one more thing and even though he’s listening, she can’t confess her feelings to him and she just calls him a weird headed geek instead. She leaves before taking another flyer of Arnold’s magic show for her to embrace.
