General[]

  • Arnold and Gerald's lockers don't have padlocks, like most of the others do.
  • Arnold can imitate his grandfather's voice remarkably well.
  • Principal Wartz played hockey in the past and had a chance to go pro if it were not for an accident in which he lost his toe in a wheat thresher.
  • This is the second time that Arnold ditched school but didn’t get busted by any adult. The first time he did it was in "Cool Jerk" with Frankie G..
  • This is one of the rare times Arnold refers to Oskar by his first name.

Cultural References[]

  • This episode is a parody of the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
  • The music at the beginning is The Song of the Volga Boatmen, a song often associated with hard labor.
  • The titular Buddy Love from "Buddy Love Goes Coconuts" is named after the alter ego of Julius Kelp and Sherman Klump from 1963 film The Nutty Professor and its 1996 remake respectively.
  • When Arnold and Gerald are in the House of Costumes, Gerald comments about being a "free man in Paris, unfettered and alive," and that he heard it on a hippie record. That album is Joni Mitchell's 1974 album Court and Spark. The song he’s quoting is Free Man in Paris.
  • When Arnold and Gerald are in the police station, there's a wanted poster showing someone resembling Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons, another reference to the fact that Craig Bartlett and Matt Groening are brothers-in-law.

Production Notes[]

Morals[]

  • Stay in school unless you are sick or you have a reason to miss school like a doctor's appointment, a death in your family or an important family activity. And if you feel stressed or not up for school, then seek professional advice from a mental health expert or an expert from related professions.
