This is the second episode that Helga got pooped on by a bird. The first episode that Helga got pooped on by a bird was in “Arnold's Hat” when she was trying to complete her Arnold shrine by stealing his signature blue hat and a flock of pigeons' poop on her. The last time Helga has a bird poop on her was in Hey Arnold!: The Movie.
The parrot's demise is a loose reference to a famous Monty Python's Flying Circus segment from 1969, known as the "Dead Parrot" sketch. Worth of note is Mr. Simmons attempting to explain what happened without using the words "dead" or "died," ala John Cleese's monologue on his Norwegian blue parrot being deceased when purchased from a pet shop.
Innuendo: Helga watches Arnold get undressed and change into his pajamas. Right as Arnold is removing his undershirt, the camera cuts to Helga watching from inside Arnold's wall swooning at the sight. Helga then faints happily implying she saw Arnold naked for a brief moment.
This episode highlights Helga's fear of anyone learning about her crush on Arnold.
