Production Notes[]
While reacting angrily to the fact that the ice Arnold bought for the house had melted, Phil says "why you little." This line is often affiliated with Phil voice Dan Castellaneta's trademark Simpsons voiceover role Homer Simpson, who has a habit of saying "why you little" whenever he begins strangling his son Bart while in a fit of rage.
Cultural References[]
At Tom's Market a magazine titled Vanity Fur can be seen, a reference to U.S. based cultural magazine Vanity Fair.
Continuity[]
Sid has a full head of hair in this episode, but in the episodes "Helga's Makeover" and "Wheezin' Ed", it's all stringy.
This is the first episode that the Jolly Olly Man is unfriendly and mean spirited against Arnold and his classmates. He was uncaring for the safety of the children.
Quite a few kids, including Phoebe and Ruth, disappear once the trouble begins.
Story Analysis[]
Hot weather can change a person's behavior as well as cold weather. Grandma personality is affected by the heat: she now acts, in Arnold's words, normal. Many characters, both adults and kids, act particularly irritable under the heat wave. In fact, severe heat could cause physical discomfort that in turn can change people behavior, not to mention the effect a heat wave could have on other aspects of society.
Morals[]
Don't stay exposed to hot weather too long.
Get out of the sun and cool off if you are outside in hot weather.
The UV rays in the sun can cause skin cancer if a person is exposed to hot weather for too long as well as other heat related illness like heat exhaustion, heat stroke or heat cramps.
Your health and safety is important no matter what!!
