It is a beautiful day outside. Gerald's alarm clock rings and Gerald wakes up and heads to the bathroom. As soon as Gerald arrives to use the bathroom, he finds out that it is occupied by Jamie O. He reminds him that he has to use the bathroom. Jamie O refused to let him in the bathroom because he told Gerald that he had a wrestling meet and he had to tone up the bod. Gerald gets annoyed and bangs on the bathroom door to get Jamie O to let him in. Jamie O opens the door and jumps Gerald putting a full Nelson on him then Threw him on the floor telling him that the bathroom is his.

As soon as Gerald walks downstairs he sees Timberly tying up books with the film of a cassette tape. Gerald is even more annoyed and tells Timberly that it was his cassette tape that she was using to tie up the books. Timberly sweetly tells Gerald that she was tying up the house books so they wouldn't get lost. And she found this ribbon she was using to tie them. Having had enough, Gerald screams for his mom. In a deleted scene, Gerald tells his mom what Timberly was doing with his cassette. As soon as the episode went back on the air, he tells her that Jamie O attacked him on his way to the bathroom.

His mom tells Gerald that she has to drive Timberly off to her play date. Then to do the laundry to Gerald's dismay.

Disappointed and annoyed, Gerald is sitting in the dining room with a bowl of stewed prunes then his dad arrives and tells him about the electric bill, and he limits his music time to two songs a day on his stereo he tells him that he needs to digest the stewed prunes as he walks away.

In the next scene, Gerald tells Arnold about how he was annoyed by the way his family is treating him and that he had to even do his own laundry. He tells Arnold that he feels like he is a prisoner in his own home. Arnold is helping Grandpa with the For Rent sign. Arnold tells Gerald that he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Gerald then dreams of getting his own place and visualizes him living in a fancy house with a butler and that he didn't have to clean up after himself or do any chores when he gets his own home. Arnold tells Gerald that he does have a good life, he just has to share it with four other people.

Gerald returns home and things repeat themselves from the beginning of the episode. Timberly tells Gerald that she colored in his geography book. Gerald has had enough. And he decides to move out into Arnold's house.

Mom disagrees about Gerald leaving home after Grandpa tells her about Gerald moving to Arnold's house. At home, Dad is angry when he finds out that Gerald has moved out. Mom tries to get him to calm down and informs him that his family will visit Gerald and check on him.

Gerald is at first happy and joyful about leaving home into his own room in Arnold's house. Arnold, who's is happy for Gerald, asks Gerald if he is going to miss being home with his family. Gerald tells him about him being fed up with Jamie O's sneak wrestling attacks and Timberly ruining his material possessions. Arnold and Gerald put decorations on his new room then Gerald happily jumps on his bed.

In the next day, Gerald walks to the laundry room. Gerald arrives in the laundry room, while Mr. Hyunh and Ernie arguing about the lint trap not being cleaned out. Gerald asks them about the laundry, but Ernie tells him that he has to do his own laundry and follow the rules, much to Gerald's dismay . In bed, Gerald is relaxing but it's soon interrupted by the noise outside.

The next morning, Grandpa is singing 'Oh My Darling Clementine' Gerald walks to the bathroom and sees the line. Mr. Hyunh greets Gerald and tell him that the tickets are in the back, confusing Gerald. Mr. Hyunh tells Gerald that new boarders need a ticket to use Arnold's bathroom. Gerald feels frustrated again as he realizes what it really means to live independently. He feels that he is repeating the same stress that he had BEFORE he moved out.

One day, Arnold asks Gerald if everything's okay. At first, Gerald claims everything's great, since he has his own place. Arnold, sensing Gerald's distress, asks if he wants to go back to his family house. Gerald confesses to Arnold that his new life at the boarding house isn't exactly what he thought it would be. Gerald complains how he needs a ticket to use the bathroom, Gerald can't eat Grandma's Gertie cooking and even has to do his own laundry. Arnold ask Gerald why doesn't he just go home, Gerald responds that he made a big deal about moving out that he doesn't want to look desperate by crawling back, unless his family asks Gerald to come back home.

Gerald's family come and visit. Gerald assumes that his family would ask him to come back. But he finds out that it was only a visit. And his family leaves.

Gerald is unhappy about his family not asking him to move back in with them. Arnold tells him that he wanted to move out and get his own place. And that he got an opportunity to become independent.

Gerald learns about the reality of being independent as Mr. Hyunh comes in and scolds Gerald about him not following the rules. Gerald has enough and tells Mr. Huynh he needed to go on a walk. He leaves Arnold's house and walks back home. He sees his dad taking out the garbage and yells "hi Gerald". Gerald is annoyed and he tells his mom and dad that he is only nine years old and that he wasn't ready to stay in Arnold's house in his own room yet. His mom tells him that she didn't want to make him move back in. Gerald decides that he wants to move back in with his family and hugs his mom. His mom tells Gerald that he is home. The rest of his family give Gerald a big hug and the episode ends.
