Sunset Arms Boarding House[]
(The next morning at the boarding house, all the boarders are heard inside as if they in line for the bathroom. Oskar is the first laughing as the others speak)
Suzie
- Well, it's not good enough for me. I'm changing my life, Oskar. I'm sticking up for myself. I'm tired of your excuses and your lies. From now on, I'm gonna make it on my own!
Phil
- (singing as a way to drown out the commotion) ♪Oh, my darling♪ ♪Oh, my darling, oh, my darling Clementine♪ ♪She is lost and gone forever♪ ♪Though her shoes were number nine♪
Oskar
- I hate this traffic jam every morning!
Ernie
- Thirteen boarders, one bathroom. What do you expect?
Arnold
- (walking closer to the place with Gerald) Okay, Gerald, we're almost there.
Gerald
- Nah, I wouldn't desert you now. Besides, I think nothing can be worse than that... dime guy. (referring to Mr. Hyunh)
Arnold
- (skeptically) Okay.
(The two walk to another door which happens to be Oskar and Suzie's door)
Oskar
- (heard inside) Oh, Suzie, you're breaking the dishes again!
(Chinas are heard being broken, Oskar and Suzie are heard arguing indistinctly, and Arnold knocks on the door)
Oskar
- (heard the knock) Who is it?
Arnold
- It's me, Mr. Kokoshka.
Suzie
- (answers it while carrying two suitcases and looking angry) Hi, Arnold. (walks out and puts down her suitcases) Excuse me. (goes back to her room and returns back to Oskar during the argument) There! I should have listened to my mother. She tried to warn me.
Oskar
- (complaining) Oh, Suzie.
Suzie
- I could have just married Joey Stevens. He was an orthodontist!
Oskar
- You know I'm looking for work.
(While they are both still arguing, Arnold manages to catch anything that gets thrown and he stacks them up on the suitcase)
Suzie
- You won't find it at the race track!
Oskar
- I know that now.
(Suzie groans in frustration)
Arnold
- (to Gerald) Stand by for pottery.
Oskar
- (on his knees) But, Suzie, I work all the time, just not professionally.
(Arnold quickly manages to grab the plates from being thrown and places them on the others)
Suzie
- You haven't worked in three years!
(Gerald runs out of the way as more dishes are being thrown out and Arnold catches all of them)
Oskar
- What about my audition for the lead in Man of La Mancha?
(The scene cuts outside the boarding house)
Suzie
- Oskar, I'm telling the truth. Now I'm a liar and have everything.
Oskar
- Suzie, please, we don't want to end it like this.
(The scene now cuts back inside and Suzie is standing next to Lana Vail while crossing her arms at Oskar behind him)
