Ernie Potts is a fictional character in the Hey Arnold! TV Series.
Biography[]
Ernie runs a wrecking crane for a demolition company in Hillwood. He's knocked down over 500 buildings, and keeps a piece of each one in his room as a souvenir. He has a metal plate in his head. Ernie is also musically talented and can play several instruments. He can play the sousaphone (a flashback in "The Journal"), the accordion (at Blockapalooza in the movie), and the concertina ("Arnold as Cupid" and Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie). He also has a decent singing voice.
He likes writing poetry, as shown in "Casa Paradiso" and "Ernie in Love". He doesn't have any kids, nor has he ever married. He's often seen with Mr. Hyunh, though the two have been known to argue. He has an antagonistic relationship with Oskar Kokoshka, being one of the most willing to call him out for his behavior. While usually loud and abrasive, he's shown many times to be rather sensitive and soft deep down.
It is revealed in "The Old Building" that singer Dino Spumoni was his inspiration for being a demolition worker in the first place as he was encouraged by his song Smashed.
In "Sid the Vampire Slayer", he is seen in the movie Arnold, Sid and Stinky are watching at the beginning.
Trivia[]
- Ernie in Love is the only episode to have his name in the title.
