The episode is also called "The Egg" on television listings.
The city buses are cleaned out every Friday night.
The pairings for the Egg project, from the draw in the class and as seen outside the school:
Arnold and Helga
Harold and Rhonda
Phoebe and Eugene
Stinky and Lila
The board at the start of the episode reads "RESPONSIBILITY + TEAMWORK".
The posters Arnold hangs offering a reward for the lost egg read: "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS EGG?", "REWARD" and "CALL ARNOLD: 555-320".
Arnold's plan to complete the project while avoiding all contact with Helga consists in keeping the egg himself until Saturday night, then leaving it at Helga's house so she brings the egg back to school on Monday morning.
This is one of few times that Helga visits Arnold's home without forcing her way into it.
No information is known about the person who finds the lost egg, except that it's a "lady" according to Oskar.
Oskar also mentions that he made Suzie write down the lady's address. It could be that he knows to read but not to write yet, or that he was just too lazy to write it down himself.
This and its paired episode "Back to School" both premiered on Nickelodeon the same day Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon had its final run on the network.
Continuity[]
When Harold apologizes to Rhonda for eating their egg, Vesti la giuba from Pagliacci plays in the background, the same opera piece Harold sang to in "What's Opera, Arnold?" (a.k.a. the "Big Ugly Clown-O" song.)
This piece would be used again in scenes where Harold shows repentance for his mistakes like in "Full Moon" and "Harold the Butcher".
This episode is more or less a sequel to "Biosquare": Helga and Arnold are partners for a science project.
Harold almost mentions what happened with him and Rhonda during the cheese festival (either "Operation Ruthless" or "Love and Cheese") but Rhonda cuts him off, telling him never to mention that night ever again.
Story Analysis[]
Arnold is very out of character in this episode; he seems to have a very bad opinion of Helga (when it's been previously shown that he believes Helga's not as bad as she looks, not to mention the two have successfully worked together before), and bluntly tells her he would rather be paired with anyone else on the planet than her (despite Helga not showing hostility towards him at any point within the episode before he says this). Not to mention that such a comment is uncharacteristically mean for Arnold to say, regardless of who it was directed to.
The reason for Arnold's attitude toward Helga was most likely as a result of her treatment of him in "Biosquare" and "Girl Trouble"; both times they were partnered up.
Production Notes[]
Although this episode premiered in 2008 as re-release, it was produced in 1999 according to the copyright date at the end of the credits.
