When Arnold and Gerald come back to the docks, Helga remarks: "Why if it isn't the Skipper and Gilligan", a reference to 1960s sitcom Gilligan's Island.
When Arnold and Gerald see Big Caesar for the first time, Gerald says: "We're gonna need a bigger swan", a reference to the famous line of 1975 film Jaws.
The pyramid hat that Stinky wears resembles the symbol of the Green Eyes but it also looks strikingly similar to the Eye of Providence (also known as The All-Seeing Eye of God). Since then, it has been jokingly said that Stinky is apart of the Illuminati (in which conspiracy theorists use the Eye as the symbol of the group).
